The Rimrock Foundation has strengths in many areas.
An enthusiastic, committed, and highly respected executive director provides leadership and vision. The commitment to excellence, evidenced in the work of this director, is contagious and reflected in the organizational culture.
The organization is guided by the work of an enthusiastic and involved board of directors. Knowledgeable and involved board members bring experience and expertise from a wide variety of roles in the community. In addition to activities related to the organization's operations, the members of this body take an active interest in the well-being of each person served.
The management team and organizational leadership are made up of individuals who are extraordinarily knowledgeable and committed to the operation of high quality sup- ports and services. Leadership and staff members are encouraged to incorporate their own unique strengths, talents, and interests in the content of their work. This awareness and flexibility have resulted in a high level of enthusiasm and high quality work.
Caring, committed staff members take an obvious pride in their work and demonstrate a clear belief in the possibilities of recovery for the persons served. The flexibility of staff members and the freedom to engage in innovative programming are extraordinary . The needs of the persons served truly drive staff interventions and programming. Examples include dinner parties with Michel's House residents. These parties are offered in order to promote the development of skills and the introduction into social settings and opportunities.
The operations and services at Rimrock are guided by a comprehensive and well-organized set of policies and procedures. It is clear that great care and attention to operational issues and the needs of persons served were the basis for the development of policies and procedures. The program for corporate compliance and policies related to privacy is exceptionally well done.
Solid fiscal management practices and creative planning/funding activities provide for ongoing stability of operations. Strategic planning and powerful community relations have resulted in the organization's ability to limit exposure to funding challenges and promoted the development of cash reserves that support ongoing stability and continuity of services.
The organization enjoys an exceptional degree of respect from funders, referral sources, and the community at large. The organization is perceived as a leader in the state. This has resulted in ongoing opportunities for program development and participation in establishing public policy priorities. The Rimrock Foundation's staff members serve on a Family Court Committee that has been formed in the last year and a half. The commit- tee includes the Family Court judge, defense and prosecuting attorneys, representatives of the Department of Children's Services and Department of Mental Health, guardian's ad litem, and representatives from the Rimrock Foundation. The Rimrock Foundation has engaged in significant educational activities for members of the committee. These and other activities have resulted in the development of strong alliances in areas in which naturally adversarial relationships might otherwise exist.
The organization provides services in locations and offices that are welcoming and attractive. There is a demonstrated emphasis on maintaining an attractive and safe environment for use by the staff and persons served.
The Rimrock Foundation provides well-organized and effective programs for which persons served are truly appreciative. The Rimrock Foundation combines individual therapy, group therapy, and educational opportunities in an innovative and comprehensive schedule of treatment. The treatment programs are individualized yet they creatively utilize group processes as an integral service component. In short, the lives of persons served are made better through their involvement with the Rimrock Foundation.

In the following areas the Rimrock Foundation demonstrates exemplary conformance to the standards:
The organization is supported by a strong system of communication that promotes the education of and collaboration with the persons served, community groups, and other stakeholders. The publication of educational materials and the ongoing efforts to pro- vide information and education to legislators are truly exceptional. The organization's publishing activities result in the preparation of over 3,000 pieces of educational material on a monthly basis. Materials include a statement of the philosophical position that "Education is the Key to Prevention". This philosophy is clearly operationalized through the organization's community education activities. The in-house library represents another area in which the organization' s commitment to communication and education is evidenced. This program ensures the availability of relevant and timely literature and resources to the staff members of the organization, the leadership, and the community at large.
The organization makes good use of technology in the form of a well-designed and easy to use presence on the World Wide Web. Web pages include general educational information, program specific information, and information about the organization, its services, and its processes.
The organization is commended for creative and flexible program development activities that have resulted in the availability of exceptional services. One example of this creativity has been the development of services through Michel's House, a community residence for chemically dependent women and their children. The women participate in other treatment services through the Rimrock Foundation that support the development of skills and reintegration into the community. This program is viewed as "a jewel in the crown of Montana's services" according to community representatives.
The organization's commitment to family involvement in the treatment process is commendable. This is evidenced in the Family Week component of services. Family members and persons served participate in an intensive week of educational and clinical programming. Family work is also an integral part of this programming.

Although the Rimrock Foundation clearly attends to the accessibility of its programs and services in a variety of ways, the organization should ensure that the written plan on accessibility includes these mechanisms as they relate to environmental, financial, employment, and communications barriers.
The annual performance improvement plan should address the Rimrock Foundation's performance in the areas of input from the persons served and cultural competency.

The organization makes good use of the CARF standards in its pursuit of continued quality improvements. The organization is characterized by a focus on excellence.
