Michel's House
A Special Treatment Project for Drug Addicted Women with Dependent Children
Addictions afflict both men and women, but women can become addicted for other reasons and by other paths. Women will also respond differently to treatment than men, due to their unique physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs.
Our innovative program allows children up to the age of twelve to live with their mothers, while their mothers get the help the whole family desperately needs.

Program Components
The goal of the initial phase of the Michel House Program is to provide intensive addiction treatment in an individually coordinated, variable length of stay program that consists of seven hours per day of individual, group and family therapy. During this period children are cared for in publicly funded day care.
A parenting curriculum is also initiated during this phase of the program and all staff function as coaches in helping moms become better parents and in overcoming the child neglect so characteristic of addiction-based families.
Phase II of the program involves a life skills curriculum:

Program Setting
Michel's House is a comfortable, multiplex apartment complex consisting of three large two-bedroom units of 1,200 square feet, each of which comfortably houses two moms and their children. The units are fully furnished and equipped. In addition to parenting skills, moms are helped to care for their units and, if necessary, receive coaching in cleaning, assistance in meal planning, etc.
Roommate moms take turns planning and preparing meals and are encouraged to nurture one another's steps toward self-improvement and recovery. The setting is designed to facilitate the patient's re-entry into real life living. Moms share in weekly chores necessary to caring for any home, such as yard work, etc. On site laundry facilities and a fenced yard add to the convenience and family friendliness of the environment.

Support Staff
Michel's House is staffed with a live-in House Manager who occupies a one-bedroom apartment within the facility. The House Manager is responsible for the safety and security of the facility. She is also available evenings to augment the work of the Case Managers, as needed.
The Case Managers are responsible for moms from screening/intake through discharge. Case Managers assure that residents receive all of the services identified on their individual plans. They also assist moms in getting to medical appointments, grocery shopping and other 'life chores'.
Transportation is also provided to the families by a part-time driver who is selected for his ability to represent a father figure to the children of Michel's House.

The Professional Staff
All of the resources of Rimrock Foundation and its professional staff are available to provide services and support the Michel's House program. Our medical staff, addiction counselors, social workers, psychiatrist and administrative staff all work as a team to provide the intensive treatment and life skills services these families need.
